Blå opal er en naturlig variant av opal
kjent for sine myke blå til blågrønne toner
og sitt delvis transparente uttrykk.
Opal består hovedsakelig av hydrert silisiumdioksid
og inneholder vann bundet i mineralstrukturen,
noe som gir steinen dens karakteristiske glans og fargespill.
Blå opal har en hardhet på ca. 5,5–6,5 på
Mohs-skalaen og regnes som et relativt
følsomt mineral sammenlignet med kvarts.
Forekomster finnes blant annet i Peru, Australia, Mexico og USA.
Hver stein varierer naturlig i farge, mønster, glans og struktur.

Blue opal is a natural variety of opal
known for its soft blue to blue-green tones
and its partially transparent appearance.
Opal consists mainly of hydrated silicon dioxide
and contains water bound in the mineral structure,
which gives the stone its characteristic shine and play of colors.
Blue opal has a hardness of approximately 5.5–6.5 on the
Mohs scale and is considered a relatively
sensitive mineral compared to quartz.
Occurrences are found in Peru, Australia, Mexico and the USA, among others.
Each stone varies naturally in color, pattern, shine and structure.
