Selenitt Råstykke 35-75 gram
Selenite is a crystalline variant of the mineral gypsum, chemically calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO₄·2H₂O).
The mineral is formed through the evaporation of mineral-rich water in sedimentary environments, where slow crystal growth produces clear, layered structures.
Selenite has a monoclinic crystal structure, high light transmission and pearly luster. It is very soft,
with a hardness of about 2 on the Mohs scale, and is sensitive to both shock and moisture. The water in the structure is chemically bound,
which makes the mineral unsuitable for contact with water over time.
The material has historically been used as a raw material for gypsum and building materials, and today occurs mainly
as a decorative mineral and collector's item.
This stone is very soft and should be handled with care. Does not tolerate water or moisture. Natural variations
in structure and clarity occur.
