Bergkrystall er en fargeløs og gjennomsiktig variant av mineralet kvarts (silisiumdioksid, SiO₂).
Den har samme kjemiske sammensetning og krystallstruktur som annen kvarts, men
kjennetegnes av lavt innhold av fargegivende sporstoffer.
Som råstein er bergkrystallen uslipt og upolert, med naturlige bruddflater og ujevn overflate.
Strukturen kan vise krystallflater, sprekker og inneslutninger som har oppstått under
naturlig dannelse og senere brudd.
Kvarts har trigonal krystallstruktur og en hardhet på ca. 7 på Mohs skala. Naturlige variasjoner i
form, klarhet og overflatestruktur er normalt for rå bergkrystall.

Rock crystal is a colorless and transparent variant of the mineral quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂).
It has the same chemical composition and crystal structure as other quartz, but
is characterized by a low content of coloring trace elements.
As a raw stone, rock crystal is uncut and unpolished, with natural fracture surfaces and an uneven surface.
The structure may show crystal surfaces, cracks and inclusions that have arisen during
natural formation and later fracture.
Quartz has a trigonal crystal structure and a hardness of approximately 7 on the Mohs scale. Natural variations in
shape, clarity and surface structure are normal for raw rock crystal.
