Falkøye er en blå variant av tigerøye og består av kvarts (silisiumdioksid, SiO₂).
Materialet dannes gjennom en pseudomorfose der det fibrede mineralet krokidolitt
gradvis er erstattet av kvarts, samtidig som den opprinnelige strukturen er bevart. Begrenset
oksidasjon av jern gir steinen dens karakteristiske blågrå til blågrønne fargetoner.
Den parallelle, fibrøse strukturen i materialet kan gi et tydelig lysbånd når overflaten er polert, et
optisk fenomen kjent som chatoyans. Effekten varierer med sliping og steinens indre struktur.
Falkøye har trigonal krystallstruktur og en hardhet på ca. 6,5–7 på Mohs skala. Naturlige
variasjoner i farge, mønster og glans forekommer.

Falcon eye is a blue variant of tiger eye and consists of quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂).
The material is formed through a pseudomorphosis in which the fibrous mineral crocidolite
is gradually replaced by quartz, while the original structure is preserved. Limited
oxidation of iron gives the stone its characteristic blue-gray to blue-green hues.
The parallel, fibrous structure of the material can produce a distinct band of light when the surface is polished, an
optical phenomenon known as chatoyance. The effect varies with the grinding and the internal structure of the stone.
Falcon eye has a trigonal crystal structure and a hardness of approximately 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale. Natural
variations in color, pattern and luster occur.
