Fargevariasjoner
Gyllen/brun tigerøye
-jernoksidasjon
-vanligste variant
Rød tigerøye
-ofte varmebehandlet
-naturlig forekomst er sjelden
Blå tigerøye (haukeøye)
-mindre oksidert
-mer av opprinnelig krokidolittstruktur

Tiger's Eye is a variety of quartz (silicon dioxide, SiO₂) that forms through a pseudomorphosis, in which the fibrous mineral crocidolite is gradually replaced by quartz while
preserving the original structure. During this process
the iron content oxidizes, giving the stone its characteristic
golden brown hues.
The parallel, fibrous structure in the material gives rise to an optical phenomenon known as chatoyance,
where light is reflected as a moving band on the surface when the stone is turned. The effect is structure-dependent and is most evident in correctly cut surfaces.
Tiger's Eye has a trigonal crystal structure and a hardness of approximately 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, making it well suited
for use in cut and polished forms. Natural variations in color, pattern, and light reflection occur.
Color Variations
Golden/Brown Tiger's Eye
-Iron Oxidation
-Most Common
Red Tiger's Eye
-Often Heat Treated
-Natural Occurrence is Rare
Blue Tiger's Eye (Hawk's Eye)
-Less Oxidized
-More of Original Crocidolite Structure
