Fluoritt er et mineral som består av kalsiumfluorid (CaF₂) og har kubisk krystallstruktur.
Det forekommer i et bredt spekter av farger, blant annet lilla, grønn, blå, gul og fargeløs.
Fargevariasjonene skyldes sporstoffer og strukturelle forskjeller i krystallgitteret.
Mineralet har en hardhet på ca. 4 på Mohs skala, noe som gjør fluoritt relativt
myk sammenlignet med mange andre steiner som kvarts. Fluoritt har perfekt spalting
i flere retninger, og kan derfor sprekke langs naturlige plan ved slag eller trykk.

Fluorite is a mineral that consists of calcium fluoride (CaF₂) and has a cubic crystal structure.
It occurs in a wide range of colors, including purple, green, blue, yellow and colorless.
The color variations are due to trace elements and structural differences in the crystal lattice.
The mineral has a hardness of about 4 on the Mohs scale, which makes fluorite relatively
soft compared to many other stones such as quartz. Fluorite has perfect cleavage
in several directions, and can therefore crack along natural planes when struck or pressed.
